Holiday Project - Day 2

Here's the saying - the older you get, the less friends you have.

I don't think this is true. I don't see my friends every day (or even every week) but they're still my friends. And my closest friends are still may closest friends (sort of). We pick up where we left off, often with lengthy conservation catching up. It's different. It can be jarring if you're not ready. The advent of social networks have made keeping casual acquaintances easier (I realize this isn't news to anyone, but go with me on this). But everyone is busy. Getting a significant block of free time is difficult, especially if travel is involve (which is always). But regardless, I've made an effort to keep in touch.

I apologize for all the parenthesis. I had general idea of what I wanted to say but no structure. This meant ideas got mashed together. This is practice. Sorry. Today's post was a random quick thoughts.

Congratulations! & Fixing My Own Mistakes

I'm helping get my workplace's new website ready for its launch on Tuesday. Friday was the test run. It failed. Over the weekend, I tried "fixing" the problem and only made matters worse. Yes, I "deleted" the site. Well, really I just redirected the URL to a non-existent page and BOOM! WordPress stopped working BUT it seemed like I had deleted it. I freaked out a little. After reading several support forums, and trying a variety of solutions, I got it back online. I'm proud of finding the solution but I'm also a little upset that I create the mess in the first place. I should have read more before trying to make the change. Well, live and learn.

In other news, I got my nice and shiny new phone. That was overshadowed because on the same day my friend had a beautiful daughter. While that has nothing to do with me, I'm very excited for her. She'll be a great parent and that's one lucky baby. It's also the first of my close friends to become a parent. Won't lie, makes you think about the big questions.

Congratulations!

It's like Baby, Baby, Baby

So last weekend I went to my friend's baby shower. Nothing all that special about that except, when I arrived I was informed that I would be the only male present. Seems others had been invited but the father-to-be had a last minute work trip so they all bailed. And everything was fine. I'll admit being the sole representative of my gender at a traditionally single-sex event was a little awkward at first but that was my own doing. Everyone else was lovely and inviting. It helps that this was a close friend and not a causal acquaintance. It it was the latter I would have been out of there quickly. This was my first experience at a shower of any kind; bridal or baby. I had been to a bachelor party before, as well as a stag n doe. Very different vibe at a baby shower. Lots of fun and bright colours.

Don't know how many more of these I'll be invited to but I'm glad I was invited to this one.

A spectre's haunting College St.

Last night I took some out of town visitors to two of my favourite bars (here and here) and over a couple of Canadian beers we discussed music, Marx, childrearing, Toronto/Queens/Portland (a.k.a Fortland), and anthropology. That's my kind of night. Too bad no one had a camera.

One Night in Hollywood

The Oscars' red carpet reminds me of my trip to LA. I'm not sure if I ever thanked my generous host. That was one of the best vacations I've ever been on. And now when every time I see the Kodiak Theatre on television I can say, "I've been there!"

Win some, Lose some

Last night I finally won a poker game! It was a great feeling until I destroyed my wireless card today due to carelessness on my part. So my winnings from last night won't cover the cost of a new one but it will cover several drinks so I can get over my pain.

Rise Up

I got very drunk last night and lost at poker.
Instead of doing any real work today I've been thinking about this painting and reading about the 1812. It's been a good day.

24 hour party people

After school on Friday, I took the train back to Toronto, went to Eggy's birthday party (where I didn't get to actually talk to her or anything), then the next morning drove my parents to car dealership so they could pick their "new" used car on my way back to Windsor. I was in Toronto for less than 24 hours, but once I got back to Windsor I came in second in my local poker game. I'm no good at heads up action.

I also enjoy that Borat might be bring the High Five back. I've been trying for years to do that, but I'm no Borat.
