I rarely talk about my family here because largely they are irrelevant to my daily life. Today, however, my day revolved around my experiences with my father. There are two important details you need to know about the man - 1) He has recently become a senior citizen and 2) My father enjoys Star Wars. I grew up watching those movies. When the movies were re-released, my father took my sister and I to see them (mostly because we bugged him). This is a man who over the course of the last ten years has collected almost every Star Wars comic book, including those awful 80s Marvel comics.
Now, let's be clear about something; my father was not a zealot or anything about these movies. He never talked about them or tried to convince anyone of how great Star Wars was. He isn't some fanboy. He just enjoyed the stories. That being said, Star Wars was a presence in my childhood. I remember watching all three of the original movies back to back with a bag of popcorn and can of pop.
For his birthday, I took him to see the Clone Wars. It sucked but he liked it.
I don't know exactly where I was going with this story. I got distracted because someone else was watching Fashion Rocks. Kid Rock was performing and Lynyrd Skynyrd came out. It still surprises me that Sweet Home Alabama has an entire verse essentially "dissing" Neil Young. Who won that battle? I guess it depends on where you're from.
