New Pick

So I finally got around to updating the staff picks' page. This time I picked Eye of the Crow, a boy Sherlock Holmes novel. It's by Canadian author Shane Peacock, who was one of five speakers at a conference I went to last Saturday. The book does a decent job of describing Victorian London and its class structures. The author took some liberties with Holmes' childhood to fit his storytelling needs but A.C. Doyle didn't go into great details in any his stories. The plots moves at a good pace, paying attention to the facts and clues but not getting bogged down in them. While it wasn't the most exciting book I've ever read, it was still good and an excellent choice for 11-14 boys who like mysteries.
