Like almost everything else at my job, the music selection is an ongoing process. While there are a few guidelines (nothing too extreme) it is our own discretion that dictates what gets played. There are two of us that bring in our mp3 players and everyone selects music from there. I usually don't pick the music because I'm much more interested in seeing what other people pick.
On my cross border weekend adventure, instead of listening to my mp3 player, I played two old mp3 CDs I made for my drives to Windsor. These CDs are three years old now and only feature songs I had in my "singles" folder. These are songs downloaded off mp3 blogs or I downloaded the entire album and decided only to keep the good tracks. It lacks many things by my favourite artists/albums.
This has lead me to think about my taste in music and how this has grown/evolved over the years. I've listed a history of important albums/songs here before but this time I want to do an ultimate top 100 songs or something. I haven't worked out all the details but I do have a plan. The first step in the plan is to finish uploading all my music onto my computer. The next step is to create a selection process; a criteria of various traits, characteristics, and rationales. Then I've got the large task of going through all my music. Once I'm done that... well I don't know what exactly I'm going to do with this. I'll probably post a list of all the songs here but after that... I don't know. I think it's just a fun summer project.
