• If I was in Newfoundland and Labrador (last province to join Canada in 1945) I would always get the day off school 'cause it's a public holiday.
• While a public holiday in Ireland since 1903 it wasn't until the 1970s that pubs were allowed to be open on St. Patrick's Day. Oh, how the world has changed.
