There's gold in them hills

I just finished watching The Seven Samurai. Earlier today I just watched The Magnificent Seven. I have seen both of these movies before and I knew before hand that the second was a remake of the first. I really like Kurosawa but I'm not a big fan of the American version. Maybe it's the Japanese in me. Or maybe I'm a big, huge snob.

I just realized that after writing that sentence I hadn't mentioned my ethnicity on this blog before. I'm of mixed race. I'm half Japanese (on my father's side) and half British (on my mother's side), but I'm all Canadian. My first reaction when people what my background is I say Canadian because that's what I am. My family, on both sides, have been in Canada for four generations. I think that classifies me as a Canadian citizen and for that reason, I dislike talking about my "race." It's not that I'm ashamed or anything. I just don't think it's important. Why should people care? In fact, I'm very angry about this point because people won't ask me this question if I was completely of European descent. And people only ask because they can't place me, which I secretly think is cool. I guess I'm mixed on this issue.

I should say, however, I have used the race card before, especially in my recent application process. I think it's part of the reason I got in.
