I got a four letter word stuck in my head,
the dirtiest word I've ever said

For some reason over the last couple of weeks people have referred to me as being "emo." While it is not new for people to be calling me random culture tags, I often don't get the reference. See, I remember when being emo, which is a short form for emotional, was a very bad thing. Emo is currently the silly man's version of punk rock. I guess since emo became mainstream it's fallen into the common urban usage. I'm not a teenager. I don't own black demin pants. I don't have a cool haircut. I wear glasses, but they aren't of square, black rimmed variety. I don't like to cry and I certainly don't write songs which often scream the word "WHY" during the chorus or bridge. I'm pretty sure I'm not emo.

Just because I'm not a meathead doesn't mean I'm emo. Just because you don't know guys who actually don't try to sleep with everything doesn't mean that a guy who doesn't fit this stereotype is emo (and it certainly doesn't mean he's gay, even if your entire family thinks it). Just because I verbalize my anxiety over my existence doesn't mean I'm emo (it means that I'm an annoying university graduate who read too much existentalism when he was a teenager).

I don't like the genre of music known as emo, so please stop calling me emo.

p.s. I realize that ranting about this might just cause some people who had never thought about calling me emo to do so; To those people I say, "Fuck you."
