to be young (is to be sad, is to be high)

How did you discover music when you were younger, when the internet wasn't an option? For me, it was mixtapes I traded with my friends and cheap compilations from record labels. Compilations were always a risk. You didn't know what you were going to get but somehow there would always be at least something interesting on it. There are about three or four great compilations from my early high school years that to this day I still listen to this day. Not all the tracks are good, and most of the bands didn't amount to anything but it's what it represents to me - the discovery of something new. Plus, most of these Indie bands would put their best (or catchiest) song on the compilations... anyway, I've been thinking of slowly posting all the tracks, week by week, from one of these compilations. Since I'm from Canada, I'm going to start with a Canadian compilation from 1996. It's from the now defunct label Squirtgun (not to be confused with the punk band featuring Mass Giorgini, legendary punk producer) . It's called More of Our Stupid Noise. There's a lot of crap on it, but with 22 songs there's also lots of good stuff. Like these four (I'm not going to post them all).

Noah's Arcweld - XFriend
Broken Girl - So Fast
hHead - Want
Hayden - A Fortune I'd Kept

Three of these tracks are from artists from my hometown. One isn't. One of them also isn't a male. Is there a connection? Maybe. maybe...
