new year's eve. I read an article in the paper saying that new year's eve is the most overhyped night of the year. I couldn't agree more. I've had some memoriable new year's, but for the most part they're nothing all that special. Most of them involve being locked out of my house or having a lot of trouble getting home from where I am. If my night doesn't include one of those events then it's boring. Don't know what's in store for this one, but it should be interesting.
new year traditions: aside from drunken antics, is there any other traditions that people follow? According to family tradition (and some cultural tradition), my family all goes to my grandmother's house for a traditional meal. I'm not exactly sure if it's cutlural because I keep finding out that these things I thought were cultural were only familial. This is what happens when you're family doesn't tell you anything about your heritage. For example, I found out recently that my family name was purchased and is not the historical name of my family. I realize that the idea of buying a family name is uncommon now, but it seems that people did it all the time back in the day. So basically I can't trace my geneology too far back because the only person who knew this fact (my grandmother) doesn't remember what the original name was. Talk about feeling a drift in the cultural sea that is the current post-modern, North American media-crazed culture.
And on that note, I hope everyone enjoy's the the celebration of the past year and promise of the new year.

it's funny to think of all i had in store for me this time last year, and how i had no idea of what was coming next.
it also gives me hope for 2006. and maybe i've learned something in the meantime.
happy new year.
yeah, I can understand that. This time last year my life was completely different. While I didn't totally enjoy this year, I'm hopeful that next year will bring more joys than pains. Here's hoping.
