It's half way through December and it's around this time of year that "best of the year list" come out. Now, I've always been a fan of these lists. I usually make a point of purchasing an album that's been on several of these lists. Kayne West was all over the top spot last year and I'm not exactly sure who'll take the top spot this year. Anyway, I have never myself been able to create a year end list of the best albums of the year, due largely to the fact that I'm never sure when something came out. This also goes for movies. Books have never been one of those things I keep up to date on. I usually read a book well after it's publication year.
Therefore, in the coming weeks I'm going to create a "best things I discovered in 2005." It's all about my personal discovery of something rather than when it actually came out. For example, it's pretty obvious that VM is going to be on the list. It doesn't matter that it started in 2004, I didn't start watching until summer 2005 (thanks CTV for the delayed boardcast!), therefore it makes the list. Veronica Mars is an excellent show that has totally captured my attention. It replaces other favourites (Angel, the O.C.) in the televisions category hands down. It is well written, not too badly acted (some of those actors they hire... man oh man... I could do a better job), and everyone I get to watch the show becomes addicted to it like me, therefore VM becomes a topic of conversation (which has always been a problem with me and television. I don't know how many conversations have ended when I mention my love of The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.).
Therefore, in the television category, the best thing I discovered in 2005 is Veronica Mars.
