This blog has been good to me.
When I first started, using the Internet for anything close to what's now known as "social networking" was unthinkable.
Here's some of the things that have happened because of the blog:
1) Records from the great country from Down Under
2) An awesome trip to LA LA Land
3) Relived several moments via top ten lists
4) Developed one fairly interesting metaphor schema
5) May or may not have wooed UFC with my words
Now for some music. Ten songs; one for every 100 posts. While I was at work today, I re-read the pitchfork best of lists. So here's my top ten songs from the last nine years [album links are to pitchfork reviews and artist links are to their web pages]:
1. Neko Case & Her Boyfriends - We've Never Met (Furnace Room Lullaby, 2000)
2. Wilco - I'm The Man Who Loves You (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, 2002)
3. The Dismemberment Plan - Superpowers (Change, 2001)
4. The Constantines - Soon Enough (Tournament of Hearts, 2005)
5. The New Pornographers - Use It (Twin Cinema, 2005)
6. The Weakerthans - One Great City! (Reconstruction Site, 2003)
7. The Streets - Empty Cans (A Grand Don't Come For Free, 2004)
8. The Hold Steady - Stuck Between Stations (Boys and Girls In America, 2006)
9. Justin Timberlake - My Love (Futuresex/Lovesounds, 2007)
10. Kayne West - Stronger (Graduation, 2007)
This list isn't all that hip but it's what I've liked. I've created a .zip of all the songs. If anyone's interested can email me at ryansenseless [at] gmail [dot] com if you want one.
Soy Candles! Is there anything they can't do?
Once again December 6th has passed and I missed the chance to celebrate my blogiversary. Eight years! Crazy! While I don't post as often as I did in previous years, I'm still trying to find things to talk about on a semi-regular schedule.
I'm still waiting for the day I crack the 1,000th post mark. Should be happening soon.
Check out the 6 year anniversary post.
So busy I forget my camera and my words. Xiu Xiu - Don'tcha (Pussycat Dolls Cover)
This is also my anniversasy of my first post, six years ago.
SIX YEARS
I wonder where I rank in oldest active blogs on the 'net?
Today I rode on a yellow school bus for the first time in seven years.
My girl* bought me another book. How does she know exactly what I like? Am I that predictable? For the record, it's the new Chuck Klosterman book. Awesome.
So, this is my 500th post. I thought I'd have something special all planned out, didn't you? That ain't happening. I'm not that organized. What it does allow me is the time to think and reflect about blogging. I really enjoy blogging. While this blog has been around since 2000, I really only started posting in 2005 and that's because I thought my life was kind of falling apart while I was thousands of miles away from anyone I knew who'd care. Since then I've gotten a lot better. I used this as an outlet for my misery via the pop culture references that only I enjoyed. Nestled in the titles of posts about nothing were the emotions; secret crushes, mistakes, dilemmas, and joys. All the titles (except for my post about my paranoia regarding technology. That one was obvious) told their own little narrative. Those posts before I had titles were nothing more than reactions. Like a good mix tape, I used lyrics, other people's poetry, to describe the mild existential angst I was going through (although, after being in a high school for two days I realize that my mid-20s angst has nothing on their collective teenage angst. It's so awesome I can't even begin to describe it).
So that's it. This is the way the post ends, Not with a bang but with a whimper
*She's got eyes of the bluest (or close enough to blue) sky
This is post 490. I'm such a geek that I've already started to make plans for my 500th post. Are you excited?
Here's a preview: Guided By Voices - Glad Girls (again, I know but I must stress out rockin' this song is)
IN OTHER NEWS: I've convinced my college roommate to go on spring break with me this year. Just so everyone knows, this is probably a bad idea. We've already decided that we'll need an interpreter to understand today's college kids. Most likely just end up buying them beer... What have I done...
