Holiday Project - Day 12

Today's post is going to the final one. Originally it was going to be a picture of the dinner my Grandmother usually makes to celebrate the new year. Unfortunately, due to last week's ice storm, her power was cut for a couple of days and all the food spoiled. This lead to a minor fight among my family because someone made a reservation without including some of us. What can you do? I'm going to stay out of it.

Anyway, I always thought I was raised in a typical Canadian fashion. However, there tons of little traditions that my family did without explicitly telling me they were Japanese in origin. Small things. Took me a long time to realize this or even ask. It was only after I started meeting other Japanese-Canadian people my age that I put two and two together.

I knew that the New Year's Meal tradition was Japanese but it's all the little like give us clementine, or the root soup, or the Red-White show. Might not know the language but it's good to know I've gotten a little bit of the underlying culture.

Now I'm going to watch the Toronto-Detroit Winter Classic. Should be a good game (hopefully)
