I feel like all I read this year, aside from instructional manuals, was comic books. And that suits me just fine. So what did I read? Well, aside from the usual superhero books (Avengers, X-Men, Justice League), this has been a year where I've continued to read more indie books, especially those I got at TCAF. Also comic book store opened a couple of blocks from my apartment so I've taken chances on new books that I would have otherwise missed (my usual comic book store is basically order-only at this point. He is, however, really good about getting me what I want). Most of these are new titles but some started last year.
- Young Avengers by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie
My favourite comic book of the year. Never read any Young Avengers before but loved Gillen and McKelvie previous books and I wasn't disappointed with this series. So good. So very good. A little sad it's ending after issue 15. - Sex Criminals by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky
Funny and wacky. - FF by Matt Fraction and Mike Allred
Tried this out and I'm glad I did. Fantastic Four without the Fantastic Four. Great concept. - Saga by Brian K Vaughan and Fiona Staples
Still great. - Fury Max: My War Gone By by Garth Ennis and Goran Parlov
Ennis is my favourite writer. This series was what's great about his "superhero" comics. - Lazarus by Greg Rucka and Michael Lark
Nice sci-fi book. Can't wait to see where this goes 'cause it's a great concept and world that Rucka's built. - Notable: Rocket Girl, The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, Sex, Hawkeye, and Lost Vegas.
My favourite discovery was the first volume of Love and Rocket. A little late to the game but it's great. Need a couple more issues and I'll have the entire run.
