My Day Listening to Music

As I prepare for yet another interview, I'm listening to random music. I do this from time to time. Whether it be listening to my old vinyl records or digitizing my compact discs, I'm always surprised and find something that excites me about music. With the vinyl it was reminding me how much I love AC/DC. When I was digitizing my compact discs, I forgot that there was some jazz out there I truly enjoyed, specifically Charles Mingus. Today, I was listening to music I downloaded from somewhere and never really gave a chance. That's the problem with listening to music on my ipod. There's just too much on there that nothing gets a shot unless it truly stands out OR everyone's talking about it.

So what did I discover today? The Gaslight Anthem (check out their myspace page). They're kind of awesome. Here, listen for yourself: The '59 Sound. It's the title track. They're a cross between Bruce Springsteen and punk rock. They're punker than Mike Ness' first solo record. They're the Constantines without the Fugazi influence. I can't say they're breaking any new ground musically but they're good at what they're doing.
