I'm currently reading The Long Tail by Chris Anderson. It's really interesting. Basically, I think it's about economics but I'm not sure. I know very little about business so everything I'm learning is very new to me. I don't think I'd do it justice to explain but it's very interesting. Also, most of the web examples Anderson cites are sites I visit on a semi-regular basis so while I don't understand the theory I get the real world examples.
I got the idea to read the book from another book I was reading, Appetite for Self-Destruction, a book about the current state of the music industry. It reads like a newspaper article, very fact orientated. It does, however, point out all the mistakes that the major record labels have made over the last twenty years.
Both of these books have made me think about my options beyond the field of education (and some of the things that need to be taught to students). Some of my friends are in the new media field. Sadly, I lack the technical skills and I'm not that good with people.
This is one of the advantages of being surrounded by books all day; I find all kinds of new and exciting things to read. Almost too many things.

After you read it, try reading some counter Long Tail stuff too. There was a lot of debate after it was published and is somewhat of a controversy.
This is a good overview of the counter-argument.
