High Voltage Rock n' Roll

While I was cleaning the apartment this afternoon I finally got around to listening to the new Ryan Adam's album, Cardinology (you can read the pitchfork review here, but be warned that pitchfork has a love/hate relationship... they don't like his record but enjoy his antics). It's okay. After one attempt to listen to it I'm not sure about it just yet. I don't understand all the reviews that say it sounds like a classic rock record. So I decided to dig through my vinyl and listen to some classic rock.

I love vinyl. I love it even more now that I've got a sweet sound system. I bought my current "home theatre" system four years ago. For a variety reasons, it was never used extensively until I moved into the apartment. This afternoon is the first I've spent an entire afternoon listening to vinyl on it. And it rocks.

I started with some CCR followed by some early Zeppelin and I'm currently listening to my Australian edition of AC/DC's TNT, which I received a while back. It's so good. It sounds fantastic. I'm not a zealot about vinyl but there's some about the sound it produces that CDs never quite match.

Anyway, according to my record collection, the new Ryan Adams' record doesn't sound as classic rock-y as everyone says it does.

Then again, what do I know? I'm currently listening to my parents' old copy of Elton John's Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player.
