Because I'm unemployed...

...I've got time to watch the entire new fall line-up television schedule for every network. One of the joys of being able to watch shows on the Internet and having to find ways to fill the days.

So you're probably wondering why is this in anyway important? Because I've been watching Gossip Girl. Its not very good but it has been picked up for the entire season. I can sum up my thoughts on this in one sentence - Where have all the teen dramas gone? I mean MTV has its reality shows but there isn't truly fictional shows on air about teenagers since the OC went off the air (oh how I miss you so). Since these shows share the same creative genius toiling in the background (and share the same basic plot except moving the setting from Southern California to New York City), it's not surprising they share similar elements/descriptions of characterizations. Let me explain; on the OC, character's true personality was explored and reveal via their selection of music. The prom queen beauty was revealed to have an anti-authority streak in the second episode by her love on early punk rock. The bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks loves, of all things, generic 70s arena rock
Journey, which highlights how much he fits in. What does that mean? Well I know it what it means to me. How does all this relate back tonight's episode of Gossip Girl? Well, while in a dive bar playing pool, the pretty, young, rich girl puts some money in jukebox and it ends up playing Ozzy Osbourne's Mama, I'm Coming Home. The reply of the awkward young man was, "I didn't know you listened to this type of music." The pretty young thing's reply... I don't remember exactly what it was but it was something like, "There's a lot you don't know about me." Is this Death Cab For Cutie? No, but they can't all be winners, right? (Not that I'm saying Death Cab was a winner but I did enjoy Youth Group's cover of Forever Young [MP3])

p.s. In the opening scene of Chuck this week the background music was Matt & Kim's song Yea Yeah [MP3]. It was awesome. The connection? Same producer, Josh Schwartz.
p.s.s. I'm having fun creating lots of links for this post. Don't know why.
