When I was in high school, I went camping all the time. Like once a month for the entire year, even during the winter. I did this for four years. It seemed like a good idea at the time except when it rained. Or when it's -40°C. Now, I don't have the time to go camping like that anymore. During university, I went once in four years. Since I've finished university, I've gone camping three times and I'm going once more on Easter. It's not like before but it's a start. A small start. The only problem is that my sleeping bag is broken. What am I going to do?
The ride to and from the great outdoors was also a large part of my music education. We'd listen to tons of different records and hear all kinds of new stuff. It was also during this time that my rules for car trips were created. Most of them revolve around music selection. So here they are:
1) No skipping tracks. Once an album is in the player, it must be listened to all the way through
2) The driver is the only one with veto power
3) Random selection is preferred
4) Nobody touches the radio except the driver (this is a key rule. I get super annoyed about this rule if it's broken)
5) Longer trips can cause a democracy to form with the music selection. The driver isn't a dictator, he just has more power than the other occupants
6) Variety is the spice of life. You can't play album of the same genre consecutively.
7) Radio hits are to be avoid, unless they're three years old
Okay, that's it. Those are it. Some times these rules aren't enforced because I like having friends. Except number 4. I don't budge on that one.
