It seems there's a brandname for everything these days. I just recently read an MTV book, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Now, it wasn't a bad novel, but it seemed slightly silly for it to have the MTV brand on it. Will people who care about the MTV brand actually buy a book? I know I'm making a generalization, but the MTV generation doesn't exactly seem like the type of people who read books. The book was full of pop culture references from the period it was depicting (the early 90s) and featured this Smiths' song, Asleep, which was originally the B-side to the single Boy with a Thorn in His Side. There is also a laundry list of books most people have read/know something about: Catcher In the Rye, Walden, The Stranger, Naked Lunch, The Fountainhead, and On the Road. There's also the Rocky Horror Picture Show, whose appeal I will never understand. Anyway, it was a quick read and enjoyable. Didn't like the ending too much. Thought it was a little unnecessary. I liked it because it reminded me of that Smiths' song, which has lead to me rediscovering the Smiths (always a good thing).
Google video is the greatest thing ever... I suspect it'll be the new internet trend for 2006. Mostly cause of this.
