backpacker or gangsta?

I just bought Kanye West new album Late Registration. I've only listened to it once, but I like what I heard. What really interested me was who produced it. On the back it lists "the Carter Adminstration" (Kayne West, Gee Roberson, Kyambo "Hip Hop" Joshua) as the executive producers. On the booklet, however, it also lists Jon Brion as the co-executive producer. First of all, what the hell is an executive producer? Second, why wasn't the difference between being an executive producer and a co-executive producer? I mean, it seems that Kayne West and Jon Brion produced most of the album, so what's the difference? I'm so confused. You can really tell how much hip hop I listen to. I'll be the first to admit I only listen to the type of hip hop that rock critics like... you know, Mos Def, the Roots, Common, etc. The only conclusion I can figure out is that the other names will actually sell records while Jon Brion, whose mostly known for his soundtrack work (Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind, I "heart" Huckabees) and producing Fiona Apple, isn't really a name in the hip hop world. Many reviews of the album have brought up how much they believe Jon Brion changed the sound of this album. I totally see it. There's lots of fucked up keyboards all over the record that has been missing from early West production. This might not strike a chord with traditional hip hop fans, but for all us crossover people, it's great.

A fun fact about Jon Brion: he played on Mary Lou Lord's major label debut.

I'd like to said that while the picture function on bloggers is pretty cool, it's not everything I thought it would be. So many problems but I can't solve it because I lack any and all knowledge about computers and the internet. I'm just using this as a forum to say my peace.

I was already excited to hear his new album, but to find out that freaking jon brion helped on it makes me almost pee myself... ok, maybe not. but a pal of mine did a review of the cd for relevant magazine. and i kinda wonder if he new about that... or if he new who jon brion is.

either way, it doesn't matter who produced the album because it's a good album nonetheless. I don't like all the tracks, but most of them are good.

and carly, I'm not in love with the man.
