I'm always behind when it comes to internet trends. Most of the time I miss them completely, but sometimes I latch on to them just before they aren't cool anymore. ICQ, Napster, AIM, myspace, Friendster, online dating, chat rooms, message boards... all these things are often times beyond my leve of commitment. If I didn't have so much free time right now I won't be updating this blog as much as do (Look at the archieves. I only started posting on a regular basis during the last three months). To be involved with the internet, and I mean seriously involved, you've got to spend a lot of time working with it. You've got to spend at least a couple of hours understanding what exactly is going on. To participate is completely different than simply viewing. I check out a websites frequently, but rarely do I feel it necessary to interact beyond reading. I don't feel that I could add anything to the discourse. Most days I don't do much beyond checking my email with my computer (Okay, maybe I play a couple games of Mindsweep, but that's an addiction that I'm slowly trying to get over). The virtual world of the internet doesn't interest me beyond being a source of information. I realize that my actions with this blog somewhat negate the statement I've just made, but that's the confusion I'm trying to work through. By consistently putting my thoughts on the worldwide web I want to become apart of it but I don't know exactly what that entails. Obviously, whatever I do with regards to the internet represent my level of involvement. An oustide observe might have a clear insight to exactly what category I fall into with regards to internet usage. When everything said and done, I still don't know to navigate the internet very well and I'm always behind the trends. All I can do is continue to surf and enjoy my current level of internet geekdom.
