Okay, here's the second of today's posting. I've just come across something called "half-nekkid thursday" and I don't know exactly what to think. I should point out is that these aren't nude pictures. And just to clear things up, I wasn't looking for porn. I was actually directed to this idea from this blog.

The first thing I noticed about most of the entries is that they are from women. The second thing I noticed was that almost all of the people who are involved with this are parents. There are TONS of pictures of kids all over these websites. I don't know exactly what that means. I find it interesting that all these people thought that this was somehow a good idea (not that it isn't). I guess people who maintain blogs are by nature exibitionists.

I've also been wondering how you get "blogger" (or livejournal/myspace/insert internet service) buddies. I check out people's blogs and sometimes leave comments, but nothing ever comes of it. Maybe I'm not "internet friendly" enough. I have no idea what the social codes of the internet are. I barely get by in the real world. Actually, I think it might have something to do specifically with my blog because there's nothing really to talk about. I mean, I add links, talk about my day in brief details, but I don't really say anything. And I'm not funnny... or witty... or ironic... or a HUGE fan of anything. I guess there's very little to talk about.

Today I decided it would be a good idea to go for a walk, so I had my dad drive me out to the park and I started walking. 13 km later, I was downtown, hot, tired, and fully aware that I was totally out of shape. It was awesome. On the streetcar ride to the subway, I saw a young woman reading the cusious incident of the dog in the night-time by mark haddon. I've read that book. It was good. For a brief moment I thought I would let my opinion be known to this woman, but I didn't. Why? Because I realized that my comment might be mistaken for a come-on and that wasn't what I was going for. I didn't want to bother her because it seemed like she was enjoying her book (she was almost at the end) and I think the last thing she wanted was some guy to tell her how good the book she was reading actually was (she's reading it for Christ's sake. She knows if it's good or not!). That's what was going through my mind. After that I just started listening to a Twilight Singers album.

Interesting take on Half-Nekkid Thursday. As a former participant I don't know that I have any hidden insight into the why's of it all. It was fun for me, empowering, and eventually I ran out of ideas and time got eaten up by other things. Perhaps you're right, that the exhibitionist factor is high amongst bloggers. I think we're all narcissists, too. :)

Enjoyed reading this post, and I'll certainly peruse some more of what you have to say. I also enjoyed Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I taught it to a university class (adolescent lit) and got a lot more out of it from that experience than I probably would've if I'd just read it for my own pleasure.
