The Electric Version

I was looking over some old notes of mine from high school, and I remember a conversation my friends and I had back in the day about music, specifically great albums. The argument went something like this: Should an album be great regardless of of the listener's mood? This was a huge debate. I don't know how I feel about this topic anymore. Personally, I think that an album can be great but that doesn't mean I want to listen to it all the time. If I'm not in the mood for it, then it just won't be as good. It's still theoretically great, but while I'm listening to it I just don't think so. And then there's the argument of something being awesome the first couple of times to hear it and then not so much. Any thoughts?

  1. i think for an album to be great it definitely has to stand the test of time...in my experience, i'll eventualy get really sick of it, and then have to shelve it for weeks, month or even years. sometimes it comes back as an old-new obsession, but generally i just comes back as a staple.

of course, this whole pattern can be swayed by what/who i associate the album with. the memories it brings up - good or bad - have a big effect on how often i play it.
